Handishop Industries, Inc. was originally
chartered in October, 1972 as the Monroe County Opportunity Center,
Ltd. A volunteer board of directors hired a small staff and officially
opened the doors on February 5, 1973 to five participants.
Rapid
growth followed, and in 1975 the facility moved to its present
location. Handishop's impact upon the community has caused the need to
upgrade it's physical plant frequently. Expansion has occurred in 1979,
1983, 1985 and 1996!
Program diversity has always been the
benchmark of our services. Staying in touch with the needs of the
community has helped to create quality services such as Adult Day
Services. In 1987 the Sparta Day Center opened its doors. The growth
of the Day Center is astonishing and it has resulted in the program
being offered in both Sparta and Tomah.
